Document Notes Easily Online
As clinicians rely more heavily on GE Centricity® Enterprise (formerly IDX Carecast or LastWord) as a critical part of the care process, such as when they use physician order entry, they need fast, easy ways to write notes. The Progress Notes application from The Menon Group, Inc. provides the means to do that – and it’s as familiar as the forms they currently use every day.
Progress Notes is custom-engineered to automate progress note forms for different disciplines and departments, such as Surgery, Cardiology, etc. The online version of the form takes advantage of rapid-text-entry tools to make it fast and easy to complete a note. Once complete, notes can be reviewed and authenticated online, and then stored as a permanent part of the patient’s Centricity Enterprise record. Quick text entry by physicians and other clinicians directly into Centricity Enterprise brings you one step closer to the fully electronic health record.
As an example, customers use Progress Notes as a foundation for relaying key patient information at shift turnover or handoff. Read more about using Progress Notes for Nursing Handoff.

Key Features
- Automate Progress Notes. Clinical staff are already familiar and comfortable with the various paper forms used to document progress notes. Progress Notes improves the documentation process by providing comparable online forms that can be used organization-wide, by specific departments or by individual users. The resulting notes eliminate concerns about illegible handwriting while saving clinical staff valuable time.
- Distill Valuable Information. A key benefit of Progress Notes is its ability to bring together the right information in a ways that's easy to understand and analyze. For example, key data can be displayed in a graphical form, such as the diagram of key cardiology lab values on the sample screen (above). It can also "nest" information so it only displays when it's relevant, such as additional assessment questions that diplays only if the patient is a smoker.
- Support Team-Based Care. Different members of the care team can access notes online and document on forms that are specific to their discipline, such as cardiology, dietary and physical therapy.
- Review Notes as Part of the Care Process. Sophisticated sorting and filtering makes it easy to review relevant notes at any time.
- Authenticate Notes Online. Notes can be set up to accommodate a variety of signing procedures, such as cosigners and supervisors.
- Add Notes to the Patient’s Record. Progress Notes uses the standard document management interface to make completed notes available in Centricity Enterprise as a permanent part of the patient’s health record.
